89 Marathon go slowly,hot cables
I am new to the carting thing. This is my first cart just bought. It will go but slowly on flat ground and when it hits an incline it nearly slows to a hault (can probably push it faster) but it does make it up the hill. I have cleaned and tightened all cable connections. My pack volt is 37.2V checked after a hard run 6.2V each. My solenoid, cables(especially the one for third speed going too the motor) are getting hot, burning hot. When I go too take off it seems to only have one speed, which is not very fast. Maybe getting 3-4 mph max. I have ordered new 4ga cables. Any idea why it may be ssssoooo weak and componets getting so hot? Thanks for any help!

Re: 89 Marathon go slowly, hot cables
Welcome snaganddrag, one.. your batteries seem a little week, full charge should be like 6.38 or 6.4. but it sounds like your resistor coil is broken somewhere or in multiple places. get the cart on jack stands and look at the coil, the brake might be right at the bolt so it could be hard to tell. Do this after the cart has cooled down. :-) If you have upgraded you battery cables but not the other ones, you will get heat resistance at the weak link. So if the battery cables are 4ga but the others are still 6ga. you will get resistance there.

Thanks, all the resistors appear to all be in tact (guess I need to ohm test them,to verify), I have not replaced the cables yet. Just ordered and ordered all cables not just battery ones. The pack test was after running for approx 30 mins hard, steep hills and some level ground. ???????? not sure what next?

Re: 89 Marathon go slowly, hot cables
37.2 and 6.2 after a "hard run" doesn't sound too bad. Install your new 4ga cables and let us know if it improves. Make sure to replace every 6ga cable with the 4ga. Good luck.

Re: 89 Marathon go slowly, hot cables
After checking further today I found all coil resistors to be in tact. However I took the seat off and road the batteries, checking pack voltage while moving I got a reading of 28.3V fluctuating. I feel like this is probabbly my problem. Am I wrong in saying these batteries need to be 36V+ while being load tessted??????

I agree and believe you've found your problem.
