Default 48v "Turbo" switch on a 36v cart?

I have a silly idea, but so far I haven't found anything 'wrong' with it.

I have a 36v G1 that I've restored and I'm rather happy with it. I cleaned the contacts, new batteries, new wires, etc. and it's rather speedy, but I'd like to get a little more go and I don't want to have to get a controller, solenoid, etc.

So I'm wondering, why not add a 48v solenoid to a switch and place a fairly stout momentary push-button under the accelerator pedal stop so that if I floor it and the solenoid is tripped, I put 48 volts straight to the motor?

I don't see any reason it wouldn't work well other than if the motor can't take the extra juice. Anyone have any experience with these motors running 48v? Anyone see any reason why this wouldn't work as expected?
