Default Power up.... Power down

Gents (or more specifically, Johhnie and Scotty B),

When I did my 48 conversion, cart was on fire - GREAT torque off the line, getting top speed of about 24 on GPS, life was grand

A few weeks back Wifey and I went for a loooong ride into the Everglades, about 12-13 miles round trip. Batteries died on the way home, made it to the crib but barely.

Now when I fully recharge the cart seems to be lagging in power, some days feels like the ole champ she was, but more often then not no longer the speed demon she was just a month ago

any thoughts, ideas for me?

You went too far. When the operating voltage drops significantly the motor must draw more amperage to compensate. This increased amperage use tends to heat the motor. You may have done some damage to the motor or to the battery pack. I would test the battery pack first.

This is a good example of why we need to have an on board battery meter in every cart.

pack will charge to 59.1 and float at 52.1/53 as it used to, how can I test it?

Motor is great some days and a dog on others, any way for me to test the motor for damage?

and if I did in fact damage one or the other or both, is there a way to "re-hab" them?

Thanks Scotty!

What does the real-time pack voltage when the motor is performing poorly?

I'll be at full charge reading 52.1, hit throttle full Dvm drops to 25.5 and slowly climbs up to 34/35 and sits there at full throttle.

This only happens every so often however, sometimes all is good...

Any ideas ?

Either a bad battery or two, or for some reason, the motor is drawing a tremendous amount of amps.

Is motor getting abnormally hot?

What are the individual battery voltages under load when cart is misbehaving?

I agree, if not a battery like Johnnie said, I wonder if you have a bad connection somewhere in the high amp delivery system? F&R maybe even?

Scotty, you need to work out a deal with EZGO and Club Car to have your meters be standard in every cart they produce from now on!

Ok - fully charged over night, topped off water prior to charging.

Woke up, all was back in tact, nice torque off the line, good speed again - I was happy

Picked up a client, showed a house - misbehaving again.. SLOWWWWwww

Motor is not hot at all - batteries were charged full meter reading 44/45 while running, 51.2 when stopped..

What's happening? How do I look into the high amp system? Should I simply disconnect and reconnect all connections?

1. Good question. Answer unknown at present. More troubleshooting needed.

2. Two ways.
a. Install and ammeter shunt and meter.
b. Measure voltage drop across suspected components.

3. It would be a very good idea to disconnect, Clean & Inspect and reconnect all connections.
You might get lucky and find/fix the problem.
