Default What's these wires on the motor??????

Newbie here!!! What are the 3 small wires coming out of the right side of the motor. They are red, green and black with a connector about 8 to 10 inches off of it???????? I was having problems with my Yamaha electric golf cart... I don't know the year or model, sorry. I do know it's s 48volt with 6 new batteries. The problem was this crazy thing , it wouldn't move one day. It would pop when I switched the tow/run switch then pop again and second later. Pressed the pedal but it wouldn't move. I thinking its was the motor. I flipped the switch then it popped and then I tried pressing the pedal and the motor would make a slight squeal for a second then stop. Still wouldn't move. So I unplugged this plug in question coming out of the right side of the motor and I be damned, It moved.. It seems like these wires are causing a short or something...shutting the motor down.I've driven it about 2 miles since and it shows on sign of problems. Sorry to ramble on, any comments will be great! Thanks for reading, Danny

After doing some research the connector, a 3 wire plug on the backside of the motor (red, green, black wires) is for a tach .. It runs great unplugged and doesn't when plug up... and thoughts??????

Maybe broken tach magnet.

Will that be a problem if I leave it unplugged? I assume it's a problem inside the motor?

If you are happy with how it runs without a tach sensor, itll be fine. There are drawbacks though, no "rollaway prevention", and no regen.

You might be right... It could be the speed sensor. I assume this sensor just attaches the the side of the motor. I can get one for around $50.00. I guess that's better than a whole new motor. Thanks D
