Sulphur smell when I charge my cart
I have a 2009 RXV and last week I brought it to my local golf cart mechanic to have the motor modified to the lowest setting for more torque. Well yesterday was my first time charging it since the modifications. After charging for about two hours I started smelling a sulphur smell. I unplugged the cart and it went away. I have read the other posts regarding its issue but wanted some input to see if the modification could have something to do with the new smell. Thanks for your input.

Re: Sulphur smell when I charge my cart
No. Unless increased amperage draw necessitated a greater recharge. Sulfur smell is somewhat normal. Check your water levels.

Re: Sulphur smell when I charge my cart
Probably not. That is hydrogen sulfide and some is normal when batteries are charging but you need to keep an eye charging current and charger not cutting off properly. Did you run it after you got it out of shop before charging it?

Yes I ran it and it ran fine. Yesterday was the first time for the smell.

Re: Sulphur smell when I charge my cart
Probably you ran the batteries down and they charged more than usual. When they cool down charge them again and keep an eye on them and be sure charger cuts off. Prior to charging check for exposed plates in batteries and add just enough distilled water to just cover any exposed plates. After charging finish filling them per battery maintenance instructions. The electrolyte level increases when charging and may cause acid to be forced out of caps if filled before charging.
