Re: 97 E-Z-GO Series Drive Cheap speed boost
The speed controller and solenoid need to be 48v rated.
The cables and four in reverse need to be upgraded also. And you need a 48v battery charger |

Then you remove and replace the ring gear and the input shaft/gear. if your talking about going up to 48v.... 1. controller 2. SD Solenoid 3. either a HD F&R or the Reversing Contactors 3. all high current cables (either 4 ga. or 2 ga.) 4. 48v charger |

Re: 97 E-Z-GO Series Drive Cheap speed boost
So with those both being said..... Give me what you would ballpark the prices at to do such??? Thanks! Weighing options... Wouldn't one consider selling what you have and combining that with the money it would take to upgrade and just purchase a 48 v cart? They seem to correlate in price and it's a whole lot less work if you just purchase a 48v already setup???

Great point! It's not so hard for most to upgrade one piece of the puzzle at a time. I'm up for a challenge! That's one of the reason's I got into this arena is because I need a hobby...

as you can see in my sig....I am still at 36v.....but not only did I do all the upgrades to the electronics, I upgraded the motor as well to get the speed, not a gear change. it already had the 23" tires on it, but mine runs 27 mph on flat ground now.....if I make the jump to 48v, it would add between 5-8 mph. HOW MUCH? between $1500 to $1700.....if I remember correctly. That includes the new motor as well. as far as |

Re: 97 E-Z-GO Series Drive Cheap speed boost
First off..... I see myself starting with the cables and F&R Switch. Following that I'm going to upgrade controller and solenoid. See where I'm at there and last but not least I'll upgrade the motor. Is there anything, anywhere that someone can point me in the direction of pertaining to the steering system. I know I'm going to have to tighten up something or replace. The steering is very loose and I think it's due to the aftermarket tires that were placed on there. They aren't much bigger than stock just thinner tire with bigger wheel. Any videos, pictures.... Would be a great help!

Re: 97 E-Z-GO Series Drive Cheap speed boost
My '98 also had loose steering. I replaced all the guts, but it still was too loose, especially 'cause I routinely "free-wheel" down hill at over 35 MPH.
Long story short, I ended up probably spending more money doing it piece meal than if I had just bought the whole unit. The housing has bushings which can't be purchased or replaced easily. If you don't go crazy fast, rack and pinion can be replaced in a couple of hours. |
