Default Re: speed magnet install fail...big problem???

Finished it up before noon today, and all is good. I was surprised at how easy it was to get the motor back in place. Thought it might awkward, but slipped right in. The only thing I noticed is that the end cap was reassemble 180 degrees from original point. That required removal of the small clip screwed to the case that holds the SS quick connector, and just connecting it without using the clip.

I tested it for slow operation while it was on the jack stands, before fighting the fender liners into place. It rotated just fine, using very little throttle.

Finished putting everything back together, and took a test run. It ran fine, no noises, same level of power, everything seems okay.

Thanks to all the help from everyone. I will be making a donation to the site soon. You guys made this R&R a piece of cake.

Jim, Las Vegas

BTW Did you change the magnet while you had it apart?

As several have posted, I had the wrong magnet. Will order the GE magnet at some point. Right now, I am just happy it all went back together okay....

Looks like you created another project while attempting to finish an original project, and ended up abandoning the original project in favor of solving the created project. Happens to any handy man all the time. Been there. And by the time you’re done solving the problem you created, you’re so worn out you don’t even want to deal with the original project.

When you order the magnet get a new bearing also.
You need a small puller to pull bearing and magnet off at the same time.
Tap down bearing and carefully tap down the magnet using metal ring only.
Use close match diameter sockets to tap down bearing and then the magnet.
Don't hit the magnet outer areas or you might crack it.
Don't drive the magnet too far, just get it flush with the armature shaft.
When you go back together check clocking on end plate so the sensor wire mounts correctly.

See you did most of it already!

On the end plate clocking if you assemble the end ring like this you should be good to go.
