Hot Resistor
Have a 96 DS series V Glide 48V limo cart.
Step on pedal, hear sizzling and a not so good smell. With key off resistor too hot to touch. Pulled cable from controller side of solenoid. Pedal up- 0 volts, pedal down- 50 volts out of solenoid. Solenoid is good. From what I've read, that means controller failure. Can motor short cause controller failure? Should I test motor before replacing controller? I want to make sure there was not something else that caused controller failure before replacing it. |

Re: Hot Resistor
The solenoid precharge resistor gets very hot when the controller calls for battery power and the solenoid is not closed. When this happens the only path for the controller to draw amperage is through the resistor. This is why the resistor gets smoking hot.
Often the problem is just solenoid activation failure which can be as simple as a bad micro switch. Test your solenoid activation circuit before you start replacing major stuff |

Re: Hot Resistor
Pedal up- 0 volts Pedal down 50 volts
I thought that would mean solenoid was working correctly. What else do I need to check ? |

Re: Hot Resistor
You are reading voltage through the precharge resistor. diconnect one end of the resistor and re check.

Verify the throttle signal is being sent properly.

Re: Hot Resistor
Went to move cart, seemed hard to move. Jacked up rear.
Rear end is locked up, I'm guessing motor failed. Going to replace motor and hope controller wasn't damaged. |
