Default Cleaning the motor and differential

Just a couple weeks ago I bought a well used 2007 Club Car Precedent. Looking it over the motor and drive system (not sure if the Golf Cart community calls it a differential, a transaxle, a transmission - but I am sure you know what I mean) are covered in a combination of old grease or oil and grass clippings. It is almost as if someone drove this thing around a golf course for 11 years!

Anyway, what can I use to clean this mess off that isn't going to hurt the motor? My first thought was to disconnect the battery, scub it down with whatever flavor of purple degreaser my local hardware store carries, let it sit and hose it off. Dry it off with a leaf blower and then hook it back up.

Is that a bad idea for any reason? Any suggestions would be welcome!

Please, those things take a beating with liquid fertilizers, water, etc. Do not get me wrong, you do not need to drive it off in the river, but put the the Run/Tow switch in "Tow", disconnect the pack to be safe. I like Foamy Engine Degreaser, and I shoot down on the axle and unit (don't shoot up anymore than you have to as you do not want to get it in the vents or up into the electrical components. If it is a lifted cart it is much easier.....
