I thought the same thing when I was looking for my Alltrax and ended up getting the 500 so I'm prepped for more changes in the future. Didn't want to get the 400 and wish I'd gone bigger down the road.

Sneaky but what a genius idea!

Thankfully, she is onboard with the upgrades just not all at once.

Question, i am going to be ordering a controller/solenoid from Scotty B and by the looks of it i guess i'll follow suit and get the 500 and turn it down to 400 until i burn up my stock motor and upgrade it!!!
Main question is, am i obligated to change all battery cables to 2 or 4g immediately upon installing Alltrax 500 and 400a solenoid or can i do them a few months later once cash flows a little more? Also, i read somewhere that resistors and diodes were needed as well, that is that about?

I want to do it right the first time but im on quite a budget so dont want to add extra features right now if im not obligated to

So will a Alltrax 500 turned down to 400 amps burn out the stock Regen motor in a Club Car Precedent I2 (Motor Model: EJ8-4001A) ?

I started with a 500 and turned it down with a stock motor. I now have a larger motor and am very happy. 23" wheels, 25 mph and plenty of torque. Budget for larger cables and a solenoid with it also.

This works out great for me.

Your going to spend a few hundred dollars on the alltrax and less than $20 to upgrade, is there a question? Don't even think about it. Go Big! Get ahold of Dave at Revolution golf here on the site, he can set you up and answer your questions.

400 amps is fine to run on the EJ4 or EJ8 motors. Most of the issues we've seen with them come from people running them on a 500 amp controller. Driving style and what you're doing with the golf car have an even bigger effect on the longevity of the motor as well. If you're doing a lot of hardcore off-roading, towing, or hauling heavy loads you can expect shortened motor life regardless of what controller you go with.

My stock motor did fine on my 2016 CC with the 500 amp XCT @ 400 AMPS. One night I wanted to see if I could hit 28 so I pushed it to 460 and I destroyed the motor. I should have known better.
