It should go to the first micro-switch that gets activated when the slider moves.

Well....new solenoid, new batteries, charging nicely, and running fine. Thanks for all the tips...I'm still a newbie but learned something.

Solenoids, Relays, Contactors, (I'm forgetting another) generally the same thing, and I've built or rigged some really cool stuff with them, along with timers etc, even without being an electronics pro.
