Default how to wire a voltage reducer

I have a 2015 48volt precident, I am installing Under Glow LED lights, they are suppose to run at 12 volts, the customer service person at Under Glow told me to wire the 48/12 voltage reducer to the Pack positive and Pack negative terminals, 48 volts. sounds reasonable, only thing that has me questioning that is I have read many times on this forum that nothing should be hooked to the pack negative terminal. Is there a more correct way to get 48 volts not using the pack negative terminal?

Usually there is a butt connector in the battery tub you can use that is for this and is its purpose.

Make sure the reducer turns off when the cart is off

The 2015 does not have a OBC so it can be used right off the butt connector or negative battery terminal. If your cart had an OBC the correct method would be the B- on the controller. That would allow the OBC to account for the energy the converter is using.

I do have a unused butt connector on the pack positive just sitting there, I can plug into it for the positive lead powering the reducer, I would then put the negative lead of the reducer to the pack negative, correct. No OBC, no problem hooking to the pack negative?
The cart is street legal with lights, not sure how the dealer is powering the lights,
I there a reducer somewhere in the cart that they used to power the lights?
