![]() Hello all,
I want to remove my 97 DS carburetor and I need a procedure. I assume that I need to take off the black governor cover, but after I removed the 10 mm nut the plastic black governor cover did not want to come off and I was afraid to force it. There are also 2 torx screws that I am reluctant to remove because I can't determine what they are for from the parts manual. A description of what these screws hold together would be useful. Can someone post instructions for removing the carb? Thanks in advance, Jim |

![]() The two torx screws just hold the aluminum cover over the throttle shaft and cable area.
No harm to remove them and some shadetrees leave them off. Be sure when you remove the fuel line to secure it above the level of fuel in the tank. Not a hard process, take pics before you pull it with cell phone for reassy if needed. |

![]() Thanks Crash,
Now I can look at my throttle valve and try to figure out why it is so jerky during acceleration. If I adjust the throttle cable so more threads are showing in the black box, I have a nice slow speed for parking etc, but the top speed is only 12 mph. If I adjust the throttle cable so less threads are showing in the black box, I can go 16 to 17 miles an hour but I lose my slow parallel parking speed. Any suggestions of what else to look for? Best, Jim |

![]() Jim, adjust the throttle so the micro switch that starts the starter/gen activates just before the throttle plate starts to open.
That will give you the low speed control you want. To regain the topend, follow the throttle cable back to the top of the transaxle. You will find a 10mm nut on a threaded rod, tighten it until you get the desired high speed you want. Might have to retouch the low adjustment after you get the high set. |

![]() Thanks again, Crash.
I took off the governor guard and the intake pipe and the air intake hose so that I could use a mirror and look into the carb at the throttle plate. The throttle plate was not closing all of the way and that is why I did not have low speed control with the go peddle. I adjusted the accelerator cable at the black box so that the throttle plate would open just after the micro switch would click. However, since I had a wire tie on the governor arm about the transmission, the throttle plate would not close because the governor arm was holding it a touch open. That is why I did not have low speed control - the wire tie was preventing the throttle plate from closing, and therefore I had no low speed control with the foot peddle. I took off the wire tie from the governor and set about adjusting the accelerator cable. The adjustment at the black box took a little bit of effort to find the spot where the throttle plate just opened after the micro switch clicked, and after the go peddle was released have the throttle plate close completely. A test drive revealed that indeed I had good low speed control, but my top speed was back down to 14 mph, instead of 17 with the wire tie. My question is: using the wire tie trick, do all carts lose low speed control with the go peddle? If so, how does one increase the speed of the cart without losing low speed control. I do not have an adjustment 10mm nut at the rear end of my accelerator cable, Crash, so your previous suggestion of how to get higher speed does not work on my 1997 DS cart. Any other ideas? Best, Jim |
