Cleaning Batteries

I'm going to change all the wiring in my 96 EzGo to #4. The tops of the Trojan 105 batteries are kinda nasty. Blew all the dust and dirt of, but it left lots of other stuff around the posts. Would it hurt if I was to gently wash the tops off with plain water?

Use baking soda to neutralize the acid...let that sit a few then rinse the tops off with water. It won't hurt them. Be SURE and not spray water directly into electrical components.

Also make sure the caps are tight on the top before you put the baking soda on.

The cleaning went well, no need for baking soda. The crud I saw was dust mixed with the terminal protector I had sprayed on.
Replaced all stock wiring with #4, charged up the 105's, and did notice a big difference in hill climbing. Went to see my nearest neighbor behind me, about 1/4 mile away, but about 280 feet higher in elevation (hand held GPS confirmired, three of us onboard plus one dog, 60lbs, no hot wires at all), speed was about 6mph! Speaking of speed, my speed is 11-12 mph on level ground with stock size tires....is this normal?
Next upgrade will be a 400 or larger controller, and a heavy duty solenoid...any input on choices for those two items.

400-450 amps is about all you can throw at the stock motor before your just waisting amps.....not really waisting amps but the stock motor just wont use it.

Alltrax make a nice controller that is programable. For the solenoid....I use czonka's. They cost double what a stock unit will cost but you can push lots of power through them and they will take it.

Understand the wasting amps. Why the programable? Won't a 400, not programable (cheaper) get me where I want to be?

Most people like the ability to adjust their settings. Non-programable will work fine.
