Default Clone ignition

Seeing all these threads on yamaha ignition woes made me wonder," why not adapt a clone ignition system to a yamaha "? You would only have to add a magnet of suitable size and in the proper location and the clone ignition coil unit and for about $10 you have a very simple nearly foolproof spark.I do realize that the variable timing would be lost but a lot small engine do use fixed timing. Yamaha wizards I await your thoughts. P.S. I have my G14 flywheel and a genuine honda 390 unit and the diameters are VERY close.

Later yamaha did use magneto. I guess the issue is you have to change the flywheel to get the magnet? Not sure how else you would do it. I don't know if the flywheel is weighted, I doubt it, none seem to be. But if you go that far maybe you can get a ut2 flywheel right? Cost would be more. I think we need to find a cheap ignition that advances and runs on a hall effect or something, so you could add it to an engine easily. Some talked about running a scooter CDI, but nobody knows the advance curve on them.

I'd like to put my yami ignition on my clone to get the advance, though it works ok the way it is.

How hard would it be to screw and glue a magnet from a clone on the yami flywheel.

This universal crankshaft ignition trigger can be bolted to any engine with the proper PTO bolt pattern. Even tho this is a Kohler engine site -- this trigger will work on a clone and its adjustable.
