Summary:

Cart was stored for 2-years when I added a New carb. It started and it ran for 10 minutes until it began sputtering.

Then I....
  • drained all the old fuel from tank & lines
  • cleaned the carb
  • cleaned and verified pump is working
  • installed all new fuel and vac lines
  • installed screw-type fasteners on all lines
  • installed new plug and coil/wire, verified spark
  • installed new battery, verified volts
  • Compression is 116 PSI
  • No oil leaks

I've tried starting with and without the air filter; with and without choke; with and without starting fluid. All used compressed air to ensure fuel ran all the way to the carb.

It turns and turns, occasionally sputter-starting for 1-2 seconds then back firing.

Didn't even think about compression. Glad that's not the issue though.

Put on a primer bulb and prime it first, like a outboard. Has helped myself and others.

Longs shot but take muffler off and block the rear end and see if it will run just DONT RUN IT FOR VERY LONG WITHOUT MUFFLER IF IT DOES FIRE UP! These g1 are notorious for the muffler plugging up and restricting air flow

Disconnected the muffler and no luck. Argh, I have air, spark, & fuel. Anyone in Florida that I can pay a few bucks to figure this out????

Have you pulled the reeds out and inspected them for a bent or broken tab?

No, is there an instructional for that?

I purchased a rebuild kit for the original carb and put that back on the unit. One thing I noticed was that when I am attempting to start the engine, both carbs seem to spit out fuel/oil from the intake of the carb. I read in another post that may be a sign of reed problems. yay....maybe we are getting one step closer. Anyhow, it would be great to see instructions or pics of what good and bad reeds look like, how to inspect, clean, replace, etc...

Thanks, David!!!

# 2&3 on diagram. Should be clean and no cracks. Look for hair line cracks.

Hope this helps ! Very easy to inspect.
