Default Yamaha G22e rear axle problem

I just picked up a nice looking G22e for cheap because the rear wheels wouldn’t turn...

When the cart is off the ground the wheels will turn in opposite directions, but they won’t turn together the same way. What’s going on with it?

I haven’t tested the motor or controller- the cart sat outside for 4 years.

Thanks,
Luke

Probably a loose or stripped axle hub.

How would a stripped hub cause them to rotate in opposite directions? I have had the brake drums off and the problem is the same.

Probably the motor is locked up, possibly rusted

Wheels able to turn opposite direction is a characteristic of a "open differential" (one without positraction), and should not be used to determine the axle is bad.

I didn’t say the axle is bad. Something is causing it not to turn correctly though.

Are you always this cantankerous when asking for help?

With an open differential the wheels will always turn opposite of each other when spun by the wheels. If the motor or engine applies turning force to the differential the wheels will rotate in the same direction. It is the same for carts as it is for cars and pickups. Unless this cart has a differential unlike any other that is typically installed in a cart, yours is normal.

Now what makes you think the wheels won't turn like you stated in post #1?
