Default predator engine swap

Has anyone tried switching the stock g1 gas engine with a 212 cc predictor engine? Just an option I was looking into. The 212 cc is a 6.5hp motor, would it be powerful enough in a golf cart?

It would be significantly weaker than stock motor. G1 motor has about 50% more HP.you would also lose reverse, because the G1 motor runs backwards to achieve reverse direction. 4-cycle engines can't run backwards.

ok, I thought with the stock g1 being 215cc the and the predator being 212cc it would've been closer in horsepower...

It will do ok, but I'd go with the Predator 420, would be a decent upgrade in power from stock, very noticeable.

I put a 212 in an electric g1. Chinese knockoff tav2, 10t sprocket on that with a 11t on the axle. The axle is an ezgo 4 stroke (15:1 ratio) so i have reverse. Cruising down my flat paved road, it does 22mph with two fat guys on it. (500lbs+) that being said, the knockoff tav2 leaves a lot to be desired. The ratios are really tight, so not much low or high end. Plus, if you don’t take off really slow and easily, it burns out the belt. When you figure the tav2 was $120, plus the chain, sprocket, spline adapter was about $200, it’d be better and cheaper to use stock golf cart clutches. I bought both clutches on eBay for about $85 each. Yet to be installed. But the g1 is super light, yes it can be done, and it really depends on your local cart market as to whether or not it’s financially feasible. Where i am, you can’t touch a running gas cart for under $1000. I have $300 into mine, after new clutches and finishing it, it’ll be about $600. I can take pics tomorrow if you’d like

Over the summer I bought a blown up ezgo marathon for $250. Got it to run but the motor soon ate itself to the point that it waa cost prohibitive to rebuild because it needed pretty much everything (crank, top end, clutch, etc). So I pulled it out and dropped in a cheap predator 212 and bought a cheap clutch on amazon. I left it pull start and it was basically a big go kart for the kids to ride around on for the summer. We left it with no reverse. I was pretty surprised how well the thing moved for that little engine, it would do around 12-13mph give or take if I remember right. With a comet or a better clutch it probably would have gone quite a bit faster, the little go kart clutch was clearly the limiting factor.

You probably have more room in a G1 but I picked the 212 because not touching anything (gas tank, muffler, airbox, etc) it fit in the cart without a lift kit.

Fun cheap toy.

You also have to remember that the stock G1 engine is a 215cc 2 stroke vs. the similarly sized 212cc 4 stroke. By nature, 2 strokes have more power than 4 strokes, usually twice the power in the same size engine. It may not be in the G1's case because it's a relatively low hp and low compression 2 stroke engine. I think they were 7-8 hp stock?
