I'm gonna hone it just to clean it up. but the inside of the cylinder really suprised me on how well it looked for being 20+ years old. if it doesn't seem to be working out i'll try to find a buy swap trade deal for a different one.

Where did the other ring go? Has somebody worked on the engine before?

I don't know if you have seem this video but it is quite informative on the rebuilding of your engine. Interestingly he finds the piston rings almost all gone. Perhaps one of yours just wore away.

mg. slide your new piston down the cyl. and in number of places check the clearance with a feeler gauge. i believe 7 thou. is the max.

Good job! It is surprising the number of people (including me) who say that the engine fired up first time after a rebuild. Gotta love the 2PG. Enjoy

Two things spring to mind, first the easy one. Brew City Music had a problem which turned out to be the regulator. What was happening was that the regulator was allowing the generator to run at 18 volts which was overheating the coil which gave up after a while (until it cooled down). So an easy check is to hook a DMM to the battery and go for a ride if you see ~ 15 volts we need to look elsewhere.

Now maybe the float in the carburetor. If this is set too high then it may not be opening the valve to admit enough fuel.

Of course it could be 20 other things as well
