Default Tinned copper lugs?

Ok so I just got a roll of 2g welding wire for the low price of free......So needless to say I'm upgrading my cables. Is there a differance between tinned copper lugs and copper lugs? I see most of the threads are saying use tinned copper lugs. I have copper ones would I be asking for trouble down the road? What size hole in the lug do I need?

If not tinned you will need to clean and flux
the lugs just like soldering copper pipe.
5/16 lug size.

You could tin the lugs you have pretty easy your self. Just heat them and apply solder.
