Default Steps to slowly convert to 48V

I have a 2002 Ez-go series 36V with a Plum Quick motor and 4ga wires. I want to convert it to 48Volts, but slowly. I can't afford to do it all at once. So what are the parts that I need to upgrade and which ones first, so I don't burn up other parts.
I know I need a new controller, selenoid, F-N-R switch, batteries and a way to charge it. I want to buy 1 piece at a time. what would you buy 1st, 2nd, ect?

Can I install them 1 piece at a time? If I get a Altrex 500 controller will it hurt anything to install it without the other pieces?

Thanks.

I would install those parts so you dont have any weak links going to and leaving the controller.

I am sure others will chime in with more detail.

Thanks, Spawn but I must be slow(according to my wife...I am), are you saying to to install all of them at the same time?
I am really not worried about any increase in performance right now. Just trying to keep the $$ down(need to spread it out). But I saw a package on scottyb's page that was not bad on price.

you could do the controller and solienoid at the same time. Then do the f/r switch, then do the rest.

A series cart with a PQ motor and 500 could utilize 2g cables. I have seen them with 4g doing okay. But if you plan on changing them this is where you start. You lay the track for the amperage increase so that when you do get the bigger controller you do not have heat issues. If you are going to go with the 4g cables you have already got you should upgrade the F&R with the HD ultra cool Switch Cam first. Then when you are ready put in the Controller & Solenoid, then the added juice. (more batteries)

Scottyb,
I'm a newbie and I'm not familiar with "F&R with the HD ultra cool Switch Cam".
Is this just adding the switch cam to my F&R or do you mean to upgrade the F&R and add a switch cam?
