Re: timing Robin 295
Did you pull the bolt out and the little "disk" off the bottom pulley to line up the keyway? Theres a mark on that washer/disk....thats not it. You gotta line the keyway up.

Re: timing Robin 295
Keyway straight up to mark, timing mark on cam pulley straight up to mark. I noticed when putting the belt on it was possible to get one tooth off if you just slip the belt on loosely then put the tensioner on. When I did it that way I noticed it was off by 1 tooth on the cam pulley. I put the tensioner back on then slipped the belt on.
If its timed right....carb might not be opening all the way....valve lash......I guess its possible the muffler is plugged up but have never seen it on a 4 stroke. I guess if you were ballsy you could pull the muffler and see if she pulls good without it. |

Re: timing Robin 295
Very true. Sometimes we forget the obvious.
I literately just did a 295 head swap this weekend. timing off one tooth or more, no compression, valve lash too tight (valves not closing) valve lash too loose(not opening) Carb not opening. Carb just plain messed up, air filter restricted. Make sure the timing belt isn't too tight also. I followed the manual and it said 1/8 inch of deflection with 10lbs of force....I checked that to the best of my ability and ended up too tight. Tight enough it would make a whine noise while running. |

Re: timing Robin 295
My Motor manual says 1/4 to 3/8th deflection with 10 pounds pressure? I have seen them running 2 and 3 teeth off but maybe they had more valve gap than yours? I thought I would add the pictograph for discussion purposes.
