Advance timing on ezgo 350 engine
I read somwhere that you can install a 3/32x5/8 key and advance the timing by 4 degs. I already have a 295 head on the engine so this might help if it works. Any opions or if you have done this please speak up!! Thanks.

Re: Advance timing on ezgo 350 engine
You don't really need a key if you lap the flywheel to the crankshaft first, Of course you would need a way to measure how far you advanced the timing. We did this on our Briggs FH in karts. They make differant keys for briggs that would get you close, but I doubt if the fit these engines . But might be an idea. They make 5 or 6 differant advance keys for them.

Re: Advance timing on ezgo 350 engine
Hello,
Every key will do if you make them the needed shape/ I have done this with the key on my clutch. On my engine there was no key on the clutch and on the ignitionside. I did build a key on the clutch, because the cranckend was damaged, so no face enough to get the clutch tight on the cranck. You can get key's in al forms at a electroengines repair shop. Hey rok, don't build B&S on your go-kart, they aren't fast enough....... Benno |

Re: Advance timing on ezgo 350 engine
Well that is what I wanted to hear, I guess I will get a hold of a smaller key and see if 4deg or so of advance helps. One other question if anybody happens to know, I was wondering if I would gain much by taking out the counter weight in the block. I know it might be a little more vibration but would it actually hurt the engine or is it just for a smoother ride? Thanks again for all the help.

Re: Advance timing on ezgo 350 engine
Hello Edgeman,
It is for a smoother ride and all the rest. You can't get it out, because the counterwaightsaxle makes the belt turning. And if you could get it out, it would make the engine reaction on the pedal a litle more agresive. The gain in internel hp loss isn't that high that you will notice it. It will shorten enginelife to much for the gain you can get. Only in racing where everything counts you could do it. Maybee you and your partner will enjoy the vibration???? Benno |
