84 gas CC no go in reverse
We have a 1984 CC gas cart. Weird situation. Initially the cart would run full speed even if the key was off and the pedal was not pressed. Talk about a big surprise!! Even when the neutral mechanism behind the F/R switch was utalized the cart would run full speed. So after taking care of that situation, another has risen. When the key is off and the cart is in forward gear or neutral gear, the cart can be pushed and moved freely. when the key is off but the cart is put into reverse gear, the cart will not even move in reverse. Anyone have a thought????

shift cable out of adjustment? you need a trunk monkey to protect your cart?

Does the cart operate normally when it's being driven in forward or reverse ? |

Re: 84 gas CC no go in reverse
Shift cables are fine. When the cart is running, it will go in forward only. When the shifter is in reverse, the motor and all run in reverse but the cart will not move in reverse. When the rear of cart was lifted with jacks, the rear tires would spin freely. When spinning driver side, the passenger side would spin as well.

That's a normal function of the differential. I'm trying to understand what you are saying in your posts. Your first post would suggest that the axle is locked up when you engage reverse but the above post implies that everything is spinning but the cart wont move. I'm probably being a bit dense here but I may be missing something. Anyway, have you removed the shifter cable and tried putting it into reverse by hand ? Mine will stick sometimes, the reverse warning comes on but no movement. I have to fiddle with the lever and suddenly it'll pop right in and be fine for weeks. |

Re: 84 gas CC no go in reverse
Yes I know the differential works in that manner. I was verifying the obvious.
We also thought the axle or rear end was an issue. Why would the tires spin freely but not move on the ground when pedal is engaged and in the reverse mode. You are not being dense at all. It is a weird situation and makes no sense to us either...hense the tread.. It feels like we are overlooking something so ridiculous. So just to run down..Cart will run in forward when engaged, will run in reverse but the cart will not actually move. Will disconnect the reverse cable to double check by hand. Looking forward to more suggestions. Thanks in advance |

Re: 84 gas CC no go in reverse
Raise one side of the rear of the cart. ( leave one wheel on the ground ) Try turning the other wheel with the transaxle in forward-neutral-reverse, Does the driven clutch turn when you do this? Disconnect the shift cable and do the same thing, shifting the lever by hand. Let us know what you experience.
Do not run the engine with one wheel on the ground! |

Re: 84 gas CC no go in reverse
ok here is the scoop. with cart raised and hand spinning tire in forward and neutral, the rear driven clutch does turn. when put in reverse, the tire can not be spun and the rear driven clutch does not move. we tried to move the driven clutch with hand and it acts as if something is stopping it because it will not spin. so then we removed the shifter at the trans and tried everything again. the outcome was exactly the same! also, when jacked up and running in forward and neutral the rear driven clutch does work. when jacked up and running in reverse the rear driven clutch does not work. what do you think of that.?
