98 problem

I have a 98 cc that usually when it's cold it will surge bad for say 5 minutes then take off and run just fine rest of the day. It will start n take off for about 4' then fall on its face then take off again. Once it's spell is over runs jut great. Any ideas? Thanks

It surges only when accelerating when cold?
Mine did this when the belt was worn letting the engine rev higher than normal causing the limiter to kick in upon take off. It would do that exact same thing, first 4 feet or so. Once the belt heated up a little after a few minutes it stopped doing it.
