Default 1997 G16 Overhaul

i purchased a 97 G16 and am thinking of doing an overhaul. This will be my first attempt. The engine starts with the choke on and runs fine after that. it does smoke a little when choking but seems to tail off once warmed up. it will run down the road ok but doesnt have a alot of power. it does seem to have a little blow by. i checked compression after engine warms up and at full throttle and it reads 100psi. What is the suggested method to overhaul? Just replace rings, or should i get a .50mm piston and ring set and have the cylinder honed? what parts are required for this job?

thanks,

Fin

The only accurate way is to tear it down and check the condition of everything. If the bore is clean, not scored, and no ridge, check the piston to wall clearance,if its' in spec, then lightly hone the cylinder for cross-hatch,re-ring it standard, and you are done.If the bore is worn,damaged,etc..you will need to have it bored.Hope this helps.

thanks for the input. What should the compression read with a good motor?

thanks,
