Default Best battery for gas gas cart

Hi All, I have spent lots of time searching the forums with no clear answer....I have a gas 84 Marathon. I see that a deep cycle battery is best, but is there any difference between a "golf cart" deep cycle for this cart, or a marine deep cycle? I don't want to spend $300, just want a decent battery for occasional use around the yard. All the forums talk about batteries in electric carts, but what about the gas carts....

The biggest one that you can afford and fit in the space available. You don't need a deep cycle or marine battery for just accessories. An average car battery will work.

It only NEEDS a starting battery. I have an 84 gas marathon also and original was a group 26 battery, smaller than a 24 and about a hundred bucks. I removed the stock air filter assembly and was able to fit a group 31 that I had leftover... happen to be a AGM marine battery. A group 24 is a better fit and what I have right now. A Sears diehard platinum group 24 deep cycle AGM battery would be my number one choice for this cart.

The local Interstate battery shop has recon deep cycles
for $50, with a 90 day money back guarantee.

A reconditioned battery is a used battery that has been cleaned up, topped off with acid, and charged. There is no way to get into a battery and replace plated like they used to do.

The Recon batts from Interstate are drained, cleaned, refilled and tested. They are excellent for this application, I use them in our carts, trucks, cars, etc and have for years.Auto parts stores also sell "used" batteries cheap, they are brand new returns that were bought and brought back, they can't sell them as new.We get them under $50 at Advance and Auto Zone.Unless you are running a bunch of accesorries,a standard cranking battery will be fine.

Ok, I decided on a marine deep cycle, group 24. It is a little bigger than the group 26 that is standard. depth is about the same, height higher and a little wider. It is 10 1/2 ' wide, but i think I can peel back the insulating foam on the cart wall and maybe grind off the top edge where the handle is to make it fit. I will update with pics. Paid $75 at walmart. Just wanted the deep discharge if I'm out at night working on something and want headlights on or radio...

Mister power tools, What are you using for an air filter? Have you re-jetted at all?

When I did my 2pg,I used a Harley pancake-style filter.I used the original flex-hose from the ez-go,and hooked the filter on the end,and curved it upwards,so the filter was up,under the seat,as high as I could get it.Hope this helps.
