Bad Boy Buggies Ambush iS CAN Bus
I’m in the process of troubleshooting a non-functioning 2014 Bad Boy Buggies Ambush iS hybrid UTV with a Curtis 1234-5375 controller.
Initially, the Curtis 1234-5375 controller was flashing diagnostic code 25. It was sent to FSIP and repaired. It now appears to be functioning correctly as the only LED activity is the flashing of the yellow LED. However, the machine is still mostly non-functional. It will operate in reverse in electric mode with the key switch in the reverse position and the neutral switch jumpered. No functionality is exhibited in forward electric mode or in forward or reverse gasoline-engine mode. The wiring schematic for the machine shows that a CAN bus is used for communication among connected devices. There are three devices connected to this bus; the Curtis controller, the transmission control module, and the LED-indicator-light circuit board (part of the dashboard assembly). Since the Curtis controller is not flashing any diagnostic codes, yet no communication seems to be taking place over the CAN bus, judging by the parameters I can view with the Curtis Model 1311 Handheld Programmer, the CAN bus wires were checked for continuity among all of the connected devices. Continuity was confirmed. The devices were also checked to confirm that the appropriate voltage is present at the dc power connections. Since no wiring or connection problems were discovered, both the transmission control module and the LED-indicator-light circuit board were replaced. The only discernible change this produced is that when the key switch is first turned on all six of the LEDs on the LED-indicator-light circuit board briefly illuminate and then shut off. The Curtis Model 1311 Handheld Programmer allows me to look at the following CAN bus status parameters: CAN NMT State, PD01 MOSI Byte Map, PD01 MISO Byte Map PD02 MOSI Byte Map, and PD02 MISO Byte Map. According to the information on page 73 of the Curtis controller manual, the CAN NMT state can be: 0=initialization, 4=stopped, 5=operational or 127=pre-operational. On this machine, the CAN NMT State parameter is always 127. It never changes. To me, this indicates that the CAN bus is not operating but I am at a loss as to how to proceed from here. At this point any and all suggestions would be heartily welcomed. |

Hello I am also having this issue. Did you have any progress with yours, if so what ended up being the issue?

Re: Bad Boy Buggies Ambush iS CAN Bus
not sure if this applies but I was having issues on a sprinter van can bus system and had it to the dealer and others, but it was finally found and repaired by a fellow ac tech. he used an oscilloscope to find a weak connection on a transmission sensor.
we had a similar issue with a ford van where a tech had damaged the wiring unloading something and repaired it half assed with blue wire nuts. it is worth a check |
