its the steel plate (bracket) where the original coil is mounted

That may be the issue, not saying it is, but that will not disipate the heat properly. I have a drawing someplace on my computer with the location of the screw holes and locating pin (so you don't need to cut it off, I am adverse to bastardizing parts) I could sent that to you if you like. The heat sink needs to be aluminum and fairly thick, 1/4 inch is fine, thicker is fine too.
