I don't think your friends 12v is gonna take 36v. Heck some 36 wont take 48.......best to get one rated for the amperage you are going to use it with.

Ok I will try to get a different solenoid and hopefully my microswitch will be in the mail in the next couple of days. Thanks everyone for the help.
