Club car surges
I have a 2011 club car president that was rebuilt before I bought it. It has a new copperhead motor and the speed is around 20 MPH but at low speeds it bucks and hesitates and at higher speeds it seems to run smooth.

Re: Club car surges
Can you tell me a little more about a "copperhead" motor. I goggled it and only gasoline engines showed up. Also what other mods does your cart have.

Re: Club car surges
I have no idea what a copperhead motor is. I only know its a 48 volt with a copperhead motor and I do not know what you mean by other mods? I am not the sharpest tool in the toolbox when it comes to golf carts.

Re: Club car surges
You said it was rebuild. Did they change anything?

The cart was rebuilt, new paint tires and wheels lots of accessories and they took the slow speed motor and put in the faster motor.

Re: Club car surges
Here are some things it might be. Batteries, I've read other post here that say batteries may cause your symptoms. Since it was rebuild they may have skimped on the batteries. Check the date on the posts. Check the water.
Next would be the MCOR. You may have a bad spot on it. Check it with your ohmmeter. There are procedures in the sticky on how to do it. You may have a mismatch between your motor and controller causing torque bumps when you start off. Since we don't know anything about your motor it may be a 12 HP motor trying to be driven by a 3.3 HP controller. |

Re: Club car surges
I have seen a few MCOR's do that, however as previously posted without knowing exactly what you have it is difficult to diagnose.

Re: Club car surges
The batteries are 2 month old Trojans and all check out good. I wonder if the more powerful motor and the mcor being the original one that this is what is causing the surging at the low speeds.

Re: Club car surges
I saw one post that said to calibrate MCORE to motor turn key on and put the cart in neutral and pump the throttle 20 to 25 times and you will hear a clicking sound as your pumping and that should make the cart run smoothly, well I did that and it solved the problem, I am running smoothly now but I wonder if this will last or if any of you have done this before was it a permanent fix?
