Default Another Squealing Thread

95' CC DS.

Here recently it has started squealing when I hit the gas. When it's squealing, the motor is not engaging. After about five seconds of squealing the motor engages and it does not make that noise while I drive around. It doesn't do this every time...let's call it 40% of the time and it doesn't matter if the engine is hot or cold.

Clutch????

Loose starter motor belt. If the belt is old replace it. Be sure to re-check belt tension on the new belt after a couple weeks of use.

Kind of a pain. I did two this week on carts at work. The starter motor pivots upward to adjust belt tension. Have to loosen the bolts that hold it to the mounting brackets, then pry the motor upwards with a prybar to tighten the belt. Hold tension on it and tighten the adjusting bolt, then tighten the pivot bolts.

Here's a video that shows how to replace the belts. Starter belt is a couple minutes in. He has the body removed so its easy to see. With the body on you may need to remove the rear access cover to get access to the lower adjusting bolt for the starter.

Okay. I found everything I need through the back hatch. I adjusted it as tight as one guy could get it. Maybe 1/4 - 1/2" play in belt. A lot tighter than it was. Still slipping. Could the belt be that worn out?

If the belt is old and it was slipping before, the belt is probably glazed and will have to be VERY tight to prevent slipping. Best to replace it.
