Another dreaded Driven Clutch removal question
I bought a new driven clutch and am trying to remove the old one on my 2002 EZGO. It must be rusted on as the bolt came out with alot of pitting and rust on it. I have soaked shaft area with PB blaster, been prying and tapping it with rubber mallet and it wont budge. Using large long handled pry bars and afraid to put anymore tension on it .
There has to be another way, any ideas?? Thanks guys |

Prying on it is a bad thing. They make a puller that is pricy but if have a local dealer they may "rent" you one. I made mine but I don't remember the exact sizes and I am not at home to go measure it. But here is a picture. When I get home I will measure it and post.

He posted DRIVEN not primary or drive this puller won't work. I think the problem is the rubber mallet it won't shock it enough. You may try a piece of oak 2x2 or 2x4 board and a regular hammer. Be sure to rotate it as you try to remove so you don't bind it to one side.

Re: Another dreaded Driven Clutch removal question
I was all set to use a ball joint fork on mine, but it ended up slipping off with no problem.
Surprised the crap out of me. |

Re: Another dreaded Driven Clutch removal question
I have been working on it again today with a pickel fork (ball joint fork) and still wont budge. Going to buy some Kroil next and see if that will disolve the rust

Re: Another dreaded Driven Clutch removal question
Have you filled the bolt hole with either water or grease, really pack it in if you use grease, put teflon tape on the bolt (3/4 x 16 NF 2 inch long). You can use an impact wrench if you have it. if not lock up the clutch by putting a belt on it and clamp the belt to a work bench on another part of the engine. Drive the bolt in with impact or wrench and the clutch should pop off. If it doesn't put a 2 7/8 inch long 1/2 inch diameter piece of rod to replace the water or grease and drive the bolt in again.
It is almost impossible to compress water or grease to a smaller volume, so something has to give, that something is usually the clutch popping off. if it doesn't come off then you are losing pressure around the bolt threads. if you can fill the hole with water, then it is not leaking out around the shaft. |
