Default 88 club car speed and tire size questions.

i just picked up a 88 model club car with no batteries; bought a new set of 6 volts and it runs just like it should i believe. Somewhere around 12-14mph on flat road.

What economical options are there to get a little more speed out of it without doing a full 48volt conversion?

Also will a lift and bigger tires help by effectively gearing it higher or will it not have enough power and make it slower?

It will mostly just be used on roads in my neighborhood.

bdeer,
You can put larger tires on it to increase speed on flat ground, but you will lose power on hills, its a tradeoff.

You can add a speed magnet to get a few more MPH or pay a club car dealer for a private, or code 4 speed upgrade.

The magnet is probably the preferable method, check this Site Sponsor web site:

After those 2 options, you can go crazy, with controllers, motors etc, the sky is the limit as they say.

1988 CC DS is resistor coil drive. No magnets, no speed codes. Anything you do to it to increase speed without a conversion to solid state may result in a Vglide meltdown... unless you are on flat ground and 20" tires is all want. Anything more can be real iffy with this cart.

gps it yesterday at 14-15 on flat ground with a full charge, i think i can live with that.

A couple more questions, i know it will never be as smooth as a controller cart but i just want to make sure it is functioning correctly. When i push the pedal i get 1 click and nothing happens, then a little farther and i get a second click and start moving. Its a little jumpy at the second click when movement starts. Is that just the way it works or should there be some movement when i get to the first click in the pedal?

Also was looking at upgrading the steering wheel, a local guy has a take off from a Precedent. Will that fit my Cart?

The first click does not move the cart, that is correct.

Any idea on the steering wheel compatibility with a precedent?
