Default Kind of a Grinding Noise

My son and I just finished rebuilding our 1988 EZGO Marathon. Engine got a complete rebuild. New carb, new air filter, new exhaust, new brakes and cables, rear-end checked-out fine and got a lube change, and even got new paint. It runs like a top, but when reaching higher speeds it developes a grinding noise and it stays until it reaches a lower speed. One thing we have not installed yet is the governor that reacts to the secondary clutch. It never did have a cover on the secondary, but we did install one. Could this noise be from the clutch coming in contact with the cover from being oversped? Just wondering if we put the governor and cable on, if it will go away. We will try it, but we are not home right now.
Thanks for any help on this.
Dave

My problem is resolved. After removing the driven clutch again, it seemed that the bushing in this clutch had WAY to much play. Seemed worn out. I ordered a new clutch on-line, installed it, and she runs like a brand new unit. I disassembled the old clutch to see about replacing the bushing and it's not worth my time or money as the new clutch should last me for as long as I plan on owning this cart.
