EZGO EH29C not starting, blowing back through carb.

Hi, Working on a Robin EH29C engine which i'm not to familiar with, engine turns over fine, set the lash on all the valves, getting a fair spark (not the best I've ever seen but should be enough), getting between 145psi on cylinder 1 and 155 on cylinder 2 which I believe is okay. Have fitted a new carb and fuel is definitely getting to the cylinders however when you press the pedal the engine turns over for a minute or two and then starts blowing back through the carb and will not run. Have also checked the timing which appears to be okay.
Would be exstreamly greatful of any help which can be offered.

With compression fuel and spark it should be running what do the plugs look like after a minute of turning it over

You mentioned a new carb. What did it do before, with the old one? Many "new" carbs are junk. If it's flooding, float not closing the needle valve for instance, it would do pretty much what you're describing.

↑↑↑ that's where I was going next if the spark plugs are wet with good constant spark
