clutch slides freely but not engaging
i have a 1993 ezgo 4 stroke 295, when the belt is off the clutch does not slide over to engage at all. when i take the belt off i can slide it over very easily. is there a spring in these clutches that is possibly broken? It has sat for about 5 years, is it possible it just needs cleaned out?
I dont have much experience with these clutches, didn't know if this was a common issue with a broken spring or something of the sort. thanks |

Re: clutch slides freely but not engaging
You have two clutches.
The drive clutch on the engine squeezes together while spinning. The driven clutch on the rear end opens up while spinning. Which one are you talking about? |

Re: clutch slides freely but not engaging
I have removed this clutch, but never opened it up.
I found a video on a Club Car drive clutch here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1XQlvqH_YA I watched it without audio, so I have no idea what they were saying. It might be the same as an EZGO clutch, but I have no idea for sure. |

Re: clutch slides freely but not engaging
Is it possible that the internals are just froze up? This cart sat disassembled in the previous owners barn for 5 years before I got ahold of it. Got everything back together and she runs like a top but were not moving now haha

Re: clutch slides freely but not engaging
Not sure what clutch you have but most likely it has a spring to force it open and weights to centrifugally close it on the belt when the engine speed increases....I would start by making sure the weights aren't stuck in place. If you can get me a model of the clutch I may be able to help more. I'm pretty good with the older comet dusters....but I'm not sure what year EZ go stopped using them

This MAY help....check PDF page 109....it's not a lot but it describes the operations. I can't find any sort of detailed schematics |
