Burning up Starter Relay or Solenoid
I've got a 2003 G22a that keeps burning up the Start relay or Solenoid. I've replaced it several times with only a few minutes on each one before they burned up again. I noticed that the red white wire always has voltage when the engine is running. Is that correct..? Should the voltage be discontinued after the engine begins to run..?

Re: Burning up Starter Relay or Solenoid
Are you using a oem style relay, or a auto parts store relay? Automotive ones are not rated for 100% duty cycle. The small wires should be energized whenever the engine is cranking or running.

Re: Burning up Starter Relay or Solenoid
The solenoid should be energized from one small terminal whenever the gas-pedal is pressed, and will drop out only when the pedal is released(If the engine is running,so is the solenoid). 2-common causes of this. 1:The gas-pedal switch is stuck on,which will energize the solenoid when the key is turned on.Its mounted on the pedal-assembly under the floor-panel. 2:The solenoid you are using is a "Starter-Solenoid" which is Intermittent-Duty.You need a Continuous-Duty solenoid, either the OEM replacement,or one for a Snow-Plow,Lift-Gate,etc...I've used them for years, they work great and are alot cheaper than OEM.Hope this helps.

Re: Burning up Starter Relay or Solenoid
Hey Guys,
Thanks for your reply and the fix was to use a heavy duty solenoid. |
