1995 Ez Go Cranks but no fiire
Hi everyone,
I am at my wits end over my golf cart. When I step on the gas pedal I hear a click then the motor cranks over. Before the cart ran, but I had to have the choke pulled out. Now she wont fire at all. This is the list of work that I have currently done to it. -All new fuel lines include pulse line. -Removed all old gas and replaced with new. -Installed new fuel filter & fuel pump. -Installed 2 brand new spark plugs -Installed a new carb -Readjusted vales to .004 -Compression reading in both 135 I pulled the fuel line and gas is getting to the carb. I have pulled the air box off the carb as well to confirm inside carb is wet. Anyone got any ideas? I would greatly appreciate your help. Thanks. |

My guess is that the new carb was fitted straight out of the box without stripping down and a thorough cleaning. Take the filter off and spray carb cleaner into the carb while cranking and see if it fires up. If so the issue is fuel supply.

Hi Cartmaster,
I did strip the carb down before install. After cranking, I took the airbox off and noticed the carb was wet so I would assume its drawing fuel in no problem. I should also note that the cart will fire up very briefly when spraying carb cleaner into the carb. |

adjust your valves the compression is to low, clearance should be .004" each.

Re: 1995 Ez Go Cranks but no fiire
OK, your compression is low, but not too low to run fairly well. Take a look at your valve lash adjusters and see if there is more thread on the stud above the locknuts on the inner two valves. If more than a couple of threads more on these two then the inlet valves will need replacing.
If you continue to spray cleaner into the carb, will it carry on running until you stop spraying? Was / is there any oil in the airbox? I am asking all this because you said the cart would only run previously with the choke engaged. |

Hi Colin,
I have attached a picture of the valve lash adjusters. Its a noticeable difference between the middle two and the outside two. In my case, its opposite from what you said. Sorry for the picture being upside down! The engine will run as long as I spray the fluid. Once I stop, the engine stops. No oil that I have noticed in the oilbox Also I should note, when I press the gas pedal with the choke pulled the engine will rev up for a second or two, die, then continue to crank. |

The second valve from the left of the picture is almost certainly worn and sunk into the seat and the third along is not far behind.

You will need to remove the head and change out the inlet valves. You can check this by doing two more compression tests. first test done normally, ie, crank with throttle wide open, then second test pour some engine oil in the spark plug hole (a tablespoons worth at the most, then test again as before. If no noticable difference in the readings between wet and dry tests, then it is likely to be the valves. If compression goes up significantly then suspect worn rings as a possibility. The worn valves are due to poor air filter fitment or a leak in the airbox. This is a common failure and is an easy fix. If you go to the ezgo tech section, you should be able to find the engine service manual for download. |

Got home for lunch and did a quick test. Dumped a little bit of oil down check plug hole and did compression test. Both are reading 155.
So with that said you would suspect rings are worn out? |

Still looking for some help on this one. Pulled the head to expose the valves. Anyone have any idea what my next steps should be?
