That's terrible! Glad you got it sorted out though.

Once I got it running I made a couple exterior temporary changes:

The headlights that came on the cart weren't working so I pulled the fog lights off one of my other trucks to throw on the cart. They are worth almost 10x what I paid for the cart.

I race off road trucks so I had this set of Baja Designs lights just begging for placement on the cart.

I also put on a set of skinnies as a teaser for the gasser build!

I moved on to wiring clean up when my fancy LED headlights nearly burnt the cart down!

This is what I discovered running through the cart:

I cleaned up and rewired most of it after finding some pretty sketchy things and learning that tape over twisted splices wont keep the magic smoke in

I also added a new switch for the lights and a new ignition switch as well (It's automotive so it's got a few functions I don't need but should be plenty for the job.

I also removed the fuel tank for something... better...

I got my Cold Air Intake installed! (JK I'm going to track down the corrent OEM canister for the filter)

I also header wrapped the exhaust pipe. I dont like how close it runs to the electrics...

I'm also curious to see if I can rig up a tuned pipe off a dirt bike... Especially now that the fuel tank won't be in the engine bay any longer.

Once I rewired all of the lights I went for a test drive:

We Have Lights!!

Right after this video I drove a couple more blocks and the cart died... I'm not sure what happened but I had to remove the drive belt and push it back to my shop...

I'm hoping that maybe it just ran out of fuel. I'll be doing the HEI upgrade and investigating tomorrow...

Yep. Never assume anything on these old carts. OMG that has to be about the worst wiring I have seen in a while. Glad it didn't burn up.

Those two strokes are so finicky too. One minute you’re riding around and the next minute it’s dead. I had to clean the carb on mine a dozen times just to keep it running. Fun project though!
