Re: 244cc bottom end
As far as I am aware there is no adjustment. They are pressed onto the crankshaft up to the lip. Obviously there are two bearings on the rear and one on the front.

Re: 244cc bottom end
Have you ever ran across this shim in any engines you had apart ? If so what did you do ? I would say if I dont get a new one It will have that much end play in the shaft and cause premature bearing failure . Is that the case or am i wrong ? any advice is appreciated .

Re: 244cc bottom end
The shims may have been to make up for manufacture defects, either in cases or crankshaft. If the cases were bored too much for the crank-bearing depth,it would give too much crank-walk.The same is true if the crank was machined too much and given a larger than normal bearing-surface.I'll check with the "OL-MAN",hes' rebuilt a bunch of em,he should know.

Re: 244cc bottom end
when you get a new bottom end kit how do you know how much shim you need or if you need any ? Seems like when I put this thing back together it will almost have to be pressed . Wouldnt that make it seem like it was realy tight and had no crank walk even if there is a little bit ?

Re: 244cc bottom end
Normally when you have a shim like that, you stick with the same when rebuilding with the same parts.I'd do some measuring and see if the crank or case is the problem. Then try to find someone who can make the shim.If you buy a crank-kit,it may not need the shim.

Cowboy, what is the I.D. and O.D. of the shim you need? i have some from motorcycle engines, might have something that will work.
