Upgrading G16
Ok, got the Jakes lift done/ tires and now on to other mods I am looking at. I read a lot of post on this forum and looked at the sponsors ads as well. I been considering the Plowman's power kit that has the complete upgrade. Since I am having possible float issues with the carb and I know it needs rebuilt, I though of sending them my carb and airbox and just have the whole thing complete.
Has anyone installed their power kit and if so feedback would be appreciated. I also would like to know if there is any simple mods that others on here done without going to aftermarket company's to maybe get better performance. Not that I am on a budget with this but I want to do it most sensible to what i will be using the cart for. I will be installing a cargo box to do hauling and yard work, going on trails/ off-road, plowing snow, and maybe ad a hitch later just for towing light loads. The snowplow is probably the last mod I will do and that is still up in the air. Thanks! |

Re: Upgrading G16
My theory is, make a car first. Make it run perfect, do a through maintenance program on it. Drive it awhile. The whole time you will learn about it as well as learn its capabilities in stock form. If it needs clutches, then yes, consult Plowmans or CPP. But these cars run pretty good stock. Read this site, there is alot of info here!
I used a concierge spring in the secondary; Yamaha factory part, $10. |

Re: Upgrading G16
Thanks, tested it this evening, had some issues, posted in the other thread..LOL
but all in all it ran nice. In fact the ride and drive is better with the 22" tires than the stock ones I had on it. Carb still has issues, I have to run the cart with the airbox off or it will bog/not run and drip gas..but for now it ran ok for the first test runs. The power on a few trails was ok with 2 adults and one child. I think a power spring and a new belt may be all she needs. As for top end, it goes! Fast enough for me and I do not think the governor was even messed with. I did a tune up last year with plug, air cleaner, oil, etc..but didn't do any other maintenance or tuning such as belt or spring. At the time I wasn't sure I was going to mod the cart. I did though after getting it struck on a trail enough times! |

Re: Upgrading G16
First thing, is check air box to make sure it is sealed tight. I don't have that kind, so can't help you there, but know it needs to be sealed correctly. Second, is you may need the torque spring, with the larger tires. Third, is grease both clutches, One pump in each to start. Don't want to over grease here. And four, keep reading and you will be able to steer your own way to a nice running car!! Look for articles about carb problems and cleaning. Might need to change fuel lines and vacuum lines. And yes, the new large tires are great aren't they!!?
Good Luck! |

Re: Upgrading G16
Yamaha offers a carburetor cleaner that is amazing. Its YAMALUBE Carburetor Dip we carry it and use it in our shop. It has revived some of our worst carburetor jobs. I've been nothing but impressed with the Yamalube line of cart care and cleaners.

Re: Upgrading G16
I am pretty sure my carb problems are based on a stuck or bad float. If I secure the airbox tight the cart will not run but the carb will drip gas and just sit and smoke. To me that tells me the carb is too rich and not getting enough air. I checked all the gas line, pumps, etc...it is carb based for sure. I did a cleaning this year of it and it ran for about an hour perfect and then it stated dripping gas again. I would like to rebuild it with new jets and float but I cannot seem to find a rebuild kit from anyone.

Re: Upgrading G16
That has to be the needle valve in the float. Or your bad float. Is the float plastic? Don't need jet unless its the idle jet.?

Re: Upgrading G16
MIke, I haven't taken the bowl off the carb yet to see. If it is plastic, it could have a pin hole in the float possible. Being that I will go with plowmans for a spring and belt, I may just send them the carb to rebuild and be done with it.
I don't think I need any other mods done to the cart. My interest is getting more torque and pulling power than speed. |

Re: Upgrading G16
With the cargo box on the back, you may want to stiffen up those rear shocks...
