Thanks That is an awesome explanation. looks as if I have no spring and the oil is running wide open all the time. I will check it out after work and report back, thanks again. Richard

Checked the linkage and everything but the govenor is hooked up and the spring is in the correct place. So I guess I need to start adjusting the throttle cable now and see what happens.

I have a 1988 ezgo gas golf cart. I have a new soleniod but I have no knowledge of how the wiring is hooked. There is no plus or minus marking on the solenoid does anyone have a diagram with photos of how to wire?

Page L-2 of the manual.

Did you buy a continuous duty golf cart solenoid? If not, it won't last long.

Why are you changing the solenoid? What did the cart do?

There are two big lugs. They pass through voltage. It doesn't matter which way you hook them up.

The two small ones activate the electro magnet. They don't matter either, but most everybody picks the terminal on the driver's side of the cart as the positive terminal. The other is negative.
