How does this mod work with just having someone reprogram the cart? On the surface it sounds like a smarter way to go then attempting to trick the input to the OBC.

It costs money at a dealer to go to speed setting 4. You're still limited to 19-20 mph and the motor braking is still there. A high speed magnet completely unrestricts the cart.

An excellent write up Clicky

Note that the down hill motor braking feature would no-longer be a feature.

Typically we use speed code 4 for the excel carts as they are not compatible with the magnet. The charge for code 4 is usually a bit excessive, like $100-$150. It's a series of 3 3 digit numbers that must be installed with a Curtis handheld programmer and can only be purchased from an Authorized Club Car Dealer. In the cases where I do install code 4, most customers request that regen braking be turned off as well. The magnet will net you the highest possible speed for less than $40, the code 4 will net you 19 for $100 or more. I know I've sold thousands of magnets, I've never had a customer over rev their motor. Now if you go down a slope with a grade like Mt Everest with a tail wind at full tilt I'm sure you could probably over rev it....but most people have enough common sense not to try and achieve jet takeoff speeds. I built myself a cart that ran over 30mph a while back......and then I drove it over 30mph once.....and now I have a Precedent that does 22mph and that's all I need!

I have a 08 Precedent and my serial number starts with PQ. Will this work for my cart?

Edit: Just found my answer in a previous post. So is there a certain one that anyone recommends?

Correct. The modified signal is interpreted within the motor controller, not the OBC.

You'll need to identify which motor you have. On an 08 Precedent it should be the ADC (AMD to some people) motor. The GE was used more on earlier Precedents. Post pics of the motor if you need help identifying it.
