1989 resistor type club car
Thanks in advance, this is a great site with a wealth of information. This is my first cart that I recently purchased that came with a 6" lift with 22×11-10 duro tires and a folding rear seat. Of course I melted the vglide and a poorly connected wire on th f/r switch. I purchased a new 400mzj 36/48 solenoid, wiper brush and arm from Scottyb and some welding cable locally. I plan on doing the wot vglide bypass and installing the #2 cables on everything but the ones that run from the vglide to the resistors. Do I need a resistor or diode on the solenoid I'm adding ? Where is the best place to source 2 gauge cable ends ? With this setup can I haul my family of 4 up some fairly steep grades without melting something or do I need to go ahead and plan on switching the cart over to a solid state 500 amp controller ? Thanks again

Re: 1989 resistor type club car
I would suggest doing Scotty's conversion. These resistor carts present all kinds of heat issues and problems.
I have a resistor cart in the shop right now, that was brought in with a melted vglide. We replaced the vglide with a new one, and also did the hi step bypass.. One week later, they towed it back in, with the vglide melted again. We removed the motor, installed new brushes and bearing, new solenoid, double checked all connections, and are waiting on the 3rd vglide. Customer doesn't want to spend the money for the conversion. The one scotty kit we did install, has worked flawlessly. That customer is happy. You can't get some of those coils, when they break. |
