I have a series ds with a carts unlimited ss conversion. Ridden twice with no issues. Smelled something burning and the a2 cable was smoking hot right at the motor the plastic coating was starting to met. S1was also hot at the motor but not as bad. Any ideas? No issues with the cart just noticed the smell

After reading your build thread, I suspect less than ideal crimps. A "local battery shop" makes cables mostly for auto use. Those cables while at times carry high amp loads, those loads are for only seconds. Golf cart cables operate in a much more demanding world.

I'd try reversing the hot cable to see if the heat issue moves but keep a close eye on in it because the controller is less tolerant of the heat than the motor.

I ended up building my own cables I got the components from him tho. I crimped and soldered every connection and not to say I couldn't have a bad connection but I'm very confident that shouldn't be an issue. If I reverse the cable and the heat stays on the motor end of the cable that should confirm it isn't the crimp right?

Yes, if the heat stays at the motor I would suspect a brush related issue.

I would disassemble your motor and check the brushes and commutator. Worn components generate much more heat there.
