Default 2007 club car running slow

So my brothers club car precedent 48 volt started running slow but the reason I think is because he was using his micro switch to slow the cart down because we had well below freezing temps here and are brakes freeze if u use them!
I told him u can't use the reverse switch to stop the cart that's a no no ! So what did he burn out?
Now when u hit the forward reverse switch when ur moving it will just coast and has no resistance, as before if u did that it would bring the cart to a stop !! And the cart is running like it's on speed code 1. Also have the speedy link installed in cart !
So I'm thinking he screwed up the controller ? Any thoughts ?

You are lucky it still works. You can burn up things using the rev to stop the cart. Not good for electric cart. Would you put your car in rev to stop it.
