Speed sensor issues with plum quick motors?
Has anyone else had problems with speed sensors with plum quick motors? I have an 05 Precedent serial #PQ0522-510752. I've replaced the speed sensor on this with SIX others (3 being straight out of the bag and 3 used) and I refuse to believe that ALL of those were bad. Cart is doing 10 MPH and throwing a "SPEED SENSOR FAULT" on my handheld. Any help would be appreciated!

Re: Speed sensor issues with plum quick motors?
Did you verify the magnet was still in the motor?
Based on pictures posted here, PlumQuick used to "hack" the OEM magnet on a grinder in order to remove some of the poles. That can compromise the integrity of the magnet. |

Re: Speed sensor issues with plum quick motors?
It is hard to believe that you could have had that many bad magnets. I too, have an older Precedent (2006). I had some intermittent problems similar to what you are describing not long after I got the cart in Feb 2014; but before my Plum Quick motor install. I pulled apart the speed sensor connector on the cart and sprayed it heavily with CRC contact cleaner and have never had another issue. My magnet wasn't bad, just connections to the sensor.

Sergio are you referring to the magnet that comes with the speed sensor that the top hat part bolts over? Or another internal magnet that I'm not aware of?

Quote:
If You use a regular magnet, the PlumQuick motor will not run any faster on a OEM setup. If you have a speed magnet installed, you can just to the "push" test to make sure the speed sensor is sending pulses to the controller. If it is, test your solenoid to make sure the main contacts are not "welded". |

Re: Speed sensor issues with plum quick motors?
The standard magnet has 8 poles (4 N,S pairs) and generates 4 pulses per motor revolution.
The speed magnet has 4 poles ( 2 N,S pairs) and generates 2 pulses per motor revolution. If you have an extra magnet, You can use another small magnet to move around the circumference of your Motor magnet and test how many poles it has by counting how many times the small magnet gets attracted or repelled as you move it. |

Re: Speed sensor issues with plum quick motors?
Are you getting your replacement sensors from Plum Quick or EBay? Like Sergio said, if you replaced it with a non Plum Quick speed senor with magnet that would be my guess on your problem. I have talked with Robby and Rick, they say both are not stock units meaning sensor and magnet.

Re: Speed sensor issues with plum quick motors?
No all the sensors were either after market or used off of other carts. I wasn't aware Plum Quick had special speed sensors for their motors I'll have to get one then.
BTW so far today with that cart I've made sure all the wiring was correct from key switch to controller to motor; Changed out the MCOR; ofcourse all the sensors I replaced; made sure the speed settings were correct; checked batteries and they're fine; no loose wires on the motor. Also with the IQDM handset I don't get any speed pulses registering when I push the cart. I can clear out the sensor fault and the cart will start off fine and run like a bat out of hell till it hits the wall and the fault kicks out again. Just throwing all of this out there to help you guys know where I am. Thanks again for all the info and I'll check on those PQ sensors. |
