Default Lift kit on 1988 Club Car DS

I just finished rebuilding my 1988 DS and I see that the previous owner had it “lifted” by cutting the frame and adding pieces of steel to lower the front. The back has a regular block lift. Is there anything wrong with this type of lift? I’ve used it a lot and never had any trouble with it, but I wanted to be sure the frame wasn’t compromised or weak. I have 23 ½” wheels.

Thank you in advance for the help,
Luke

That's called a Z-lift. As long it was done right (and it looks like your was), you shouldn't have any issues.

Thank you. I figured it was some sort of a Z lift. I’m assuming this was done before aftermarket lift kits were common?

Yes, I think they were more common back then. But I believe that CC still uses a factory Z-lift on their XRT utility vehicles...

You do still want to be careful- while this is pretty common and it looks well done, sudden jarring can break the welds.

Not the same, but I drove on factory Melex 3/4 front axles on a cart that was stretched and lifted with 23" tires for five years with no issues. Until I hit one speed bump at just 8mph...both axles sheared completely off, one at a time and almost flipped with my kids in the back.

Point is reinforcing is not a bad idea.

Ok. Thanks. That’s good to know. I’ve driven it quite roughly at times and haven’t had any issues yet, but I will remember to be careful.
