Yamaha g16 shorted at solenoid now not working
Hey guys hoping to find some help on an issue I caused myself. I was given a yamaha g16 2001 we that was working just fine. When we went to load it it stopped working and when I got home and took a look I noticed the wire from the solenoid to the positive battery terminal had rusted off. Got a new cable and when installing hit the small negative post on the solenoid. Of course there were sparks and some smoke. Would not work after that and I assumed I fried the solenoid. Ordered new solenoid and installed it yesterday and nothing! The cart does make a soft beeping noise when in forward and pedal is pressed. Solenoid is not clicking at all. Any ideas on what else to try?

Re: Yamaha g16 shorted at solenoid now not working
Forgot to mention no volts at the small terminals on the solenoid even when pedal is pressed. Also makes no reverse beep when put into reverse.

All fuses are good. Thanks for the reply. This is an electric model.

Ok, check the key switch.
High current through it could have damaged it and the contacts are open. |

I will check that and you are probably right because I was able to get it moving by bypassing Solenoid! Will let you know after I try tonight.

Re: Yamaha g16 shorted at solenoid now not working
Tried a jumper cable on key switch with no luck. Still no power to small terminals of solenoid. Do the diodes typically blow on these with the high voltage?

Re: Yamaha g16 shorted at solenoid now not working
The diodes could have been damaged.
I would check them both but if #4 is bad the solenoid would not get voltage on the small terminals. I circled the power port by accident in my last post instead of the key switch. I hope the controller solenoid dirve circuit is not damaged as controllers don't like sparks and shorts. Check the diodes next. |

Woohoo up and running. Key switch was bad and wire running from charger to solenoid was burnt up. Thanks for the help and suggestions. Time consuming but at least it was a minor fix!
